KKRSS submits protest letter to Darjeeling MP
RGI has time and again rejected the report of Khambu Rai for inclusion in the list of scheduled tribes due to various aspects. One major observation of RGI was specifically quoted from the book titled “People of India,” West Bengal (Calcutta 2008), general editor K. S. Singh, compiled by Badal Kumar Basu, where Khambu Rai has been projected as absolutely absurd, such as… “They profess Hinduism… The service of a Baon or Brahman priest is hired by them for the performance of rituals associated with birth, marriage and death. Temples of Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali are the sacred centres commonly visited by them. The temple of Mata in Kathmandu in Nepal, Banaras and Kashi are recognised by them as their centres of pilgrimage….”
This is how Khambu Rai has been described by the Anthropological Survey of India.
Thereby, in an initiative of our ST committee president, Shri MS Rai, a protest letter was submitted to MP Raju Bista.
